Remembering Gymnastics Video
The internet makes it extremely easy to look at a gymnastics video. If you miss watching your favorite US Women’s Gymnastics on television you can more than likely access the clip from several different web sites on the web. I remember in 1984 Mary Lou Retton was performing and the afternoon that she took the gold, I was in the hospital giving birth to my youngest daughter. I asked for a television in the room but this alerted the nurse. For some reason she thought that I wasn’t in too much pain if I was demanding to watch the Olympics. I guess she just couldn’t know how important this was to me and that I was wanting to multitask. Give birth and watch at the same time.
Although I’m very blessed to have youngest son, it had always disappointed me that I didn’t get to spectate Mary Lou score all those perfect 10′s and get the golds for her part in the Olympics. She won the first all around match. Today I can go to my favorite locations and watch the gymnastics video that I missed. I also have an amazing story to tell my little son. What took place on the afternoon he was born. Over the decades of working and taking care of a family I have not seen several US Woman’s Gymnastics competitions. I am able to catch up and view some of my favorite gymnastics video at my convenience when I’m capable or if I’m just feeling sentimental and need to step back into yesterday and re do some of those fantastic times of history for young girls.
After two back surgeries, I am un able able to do just a simple handspring. My 4 year old granddaughter is ready to learn as much as she can About Gymnastics. I sit down with her and we look up a gymnastics video on the internet and she is able to see the athletes doing their routines and how exciting it was for young girls especially in the 70′s when gymnastics was the talk of the United States. Thanks to a young girl at the time of the name of Cathy Rigby. I’m so grateful that I can sit here and enjoy these exciting moments with my granddaughter and watch her wonderment and enthusiasm as she observes and then tries to do the gymnastics herself.
